Interview with Takayas Mizuno : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Takayas Mizuno : The design was inspired by bamboo because bamboo is hollow and I could see the two different shapes within the bamboo when cut in an angle. I used that difference within the bamboo to shape the external design. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Takayas Mizuno : I wanted to achieve the hollow space as part of the main design, not the metal parts, but the hollowness-the opening. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Takayas Mizuno : Would like to sell the royalty rights for high-end speciality stores. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Takayas Mizuno : Two to three days. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Takayas Mizuno : Decided to pursue an inspiration. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Takayas Mizuno : The plan is to sell or lease the production rights. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Takayas Mizuno : I wanted something unique for the competition and drew from my background. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Takayas Mizuno : No .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Takayas Mizuno : Women, and fashion shows .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Takayas Mizuno : It's unique in design and futuristic vision of style. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Takayas Mizuno : Bamboo Diamond Bracelet - The design was inspired by bamboo. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Takayas Mizuno : CAD technology .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Takayas Mizuno : The external and internal architecture that is naturally seen in bamboo, but extending it to a futuristic design using technology. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Takayas Mizuno : No one. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Takayas Mizuno : The role of technology was the use of design and CAD for the three dimensional aspect. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Takayas Mizuno : No, it was inspired by natural Bamboo. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Takayas Mizuno : The biggest challenge was how to recreate the design from the computer model to the actual bracelet. The design had to be created in a way that the casting would be able to build the whole bracelet in parts and still maintain the integrity of the unique structure and shape. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Takayas Mizuno : Researched the most highly considered competitions for international accessability and distribution. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Takayas Mizuno : My skills become more sharpened as I created more technically difficult designs. This bracelet was a challenge because of the what I wanted to achieve, and that was the mixture of the external and internal shape of bamboo. .
