U-Comfort
U-Comfort is a rattan lounge chair intended for homes, beaches, resorts and other leisure settings. The overall form is round and smooth, with curved lines. A circular closed ring at the side of the chair acts as both a visual feature and a support structure. The frame is made from thick rattan that is bent by heating, and the joints are wrapped with rattan skin. The seating surface is woven by hand. Topology optimization software was used to refine the structure, so that material is used economically while the mechanical requirements of a seat are met.
U-Comfort Rattan Chair by Junge Chen has been identified as a grand illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. U-Comfort Rattan Chair was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2024. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition that honors exceptional design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
