The Basalt
The modular recycling system translates basalt's natural columnar formations into units for public waste management. Magnetic connectors enable tool free reconfiguration across transit hubs, corporate spaces, and urban environments, eliminating visible fasteners while maintaining structural integrity. Rotating lids with standardized pictograms clarify disposal categories across language barriers. The modular architecture permits horizontal expansion to accommodate spatial constraints, with individual component replacement capabilities minimizing maintenance disruptions.
The Basalt Modular Recycling Bin by Teming Kang was recognized as an innovative representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award. The Basalt Modular Recycling Bin received the Iron A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2025. The A' Furniture Design Award is a highly prestigious international design prize which rewards exceptional design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
