Soul
Chair of Soul is a chair designed to support the body in a relaxed upright posture. The height of the seat, the backrest at the waist and the armrests carry the weight of the upper body. The slightly curved backrest follows the shape of the body and eases tension in the shoulders, neck, waist and limbs. Traditional Ming Dynasty furniture provides the blueprint for the simple proportions. Ebony from Sulawesi forms the main structure, paired with copper tube legs and a purple Nappa leather seat. Mortise and tenon joints connect the parts, and an arc structure links the legs to the seat.
Soul Chair by Wen Jenq Cherng has been featured as a grand representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Soul Chair received the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2020. The A' Furniture Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition which recognizes exceptional design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
